 Week 25/52 of the Life Documented 2019 Project.

Hi, I'm back with a short little post to show off my recent page in my traveler's journal. I have been following the Life Documented Project for a few years and providing some tutorials for it too, but I haven't been able to get into the mindset of carrying through with all the other great prompts in the group. I finally actually did do one finally. 

The prompt was to make your own paper stencils. I deviated slightly by using one I'd made a long time ago with a transparency sheet.

Life Documented 2019 20 Minute Journaling Challenge

Hi all! It's been a long time since I've posted anything here, but today I have something to share (and when I actually took the time to write a post!). I finally have another art video up on YouTube. This time it's my take on Week 3 of the Life Documented 2019 prompt. The challenge was to create for 20 minutes. 

 As I was preparing this post, my boys were watching former NASA engineer Mark Rober's videos on YouTube. The specific video was about kids' science projects and education, and he said something that really spoke to me, and it applies to this prompt as well. He quotes Tina Seelig: Creativity is applying your imagination to address a challenge. This requires both imagination and experimentation." Wow. I thought you'd all like it too, so I've picked that as my quote, and I think it fits well with the challenge: to only allow yourself 20 minutes to create something. It sure challenged me, and we all need to flex those creative muscles, right? :) If you're interested, HERE IS THE VIDEO.

Pop-Up Journal Challenge Day 1/10 and Day 2/10

I have started the prompts for the Pop-Up Journal Challenge by Roben-Marie Smith.

Prompt 1/10: We ______what we want. 

While I was decorating this page, I contemplated what we as frail human beings often want. The thing that came to my mind is how we might not always really know what we want, and other times, we do, but later find out that is not what we really needed. Our heart can be deceiving sometimes. We all want to be happy, but we need to use our brains to determine the right path, and as a Christian, I want to really listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

His way is always right for me. It takes faith; tenacity and intentionality to hold onto that truth.

So here is my after photo of the completed prompt:

Before: 

The right side is a kraft paper bag sewn into a pocket,

round Pop-Art stickers from Roben-Marie,

petal-like pencil scribbles around each circle sticker,

outlined with a green gel pen.

I really loved the look of the page as is, but I wanted to add more, as of course, that is what this journaling challenge is about. So I just decided to let loose and start playing with paint. 

I used the new Pam Carriker StencilClub stencils I received in the mail and simply placed it in one of my favorite spots on the page, and sponged in. I was happy with that!

Added some swipes of aqua and pink, 

add some whiteness to the eye, 

stenciled in some texture further below, 

cut out a flower that my daughter had painted, 

glued to page, 

smudged some color, 

made orange dots, 

add the quote, 

edge with some black paint and white dots, 

and all was done.

Oh, and pretty washi tape on the lower edge... :)

I also added pretty washi on the left side of the white spine in middle. See first photo.

Prompt 2/10: Hello, I am _____.

Before pic: I forgot to take one of the whole spread. Grrr...but I did take a peek shot:

After:

I had put in a page of a magazine with lots of purple flowers and of a gorgeous colourful skirt. I painted over the areas I didn't want shown, swiping paint with fingers.

For the right side of the layout, I have a gorgeous gelliprint. I added stenciling, dots, and swipes of paint.

Travel by Color: I figure this title fit in perfectly with the prompt. 

"Hello, I'm in a colourful world."

Rae's Art Marks Challenge Set 4

Hi! 

I'm still plugging away with Rae's challenge. I just finished Day16, so here I am blogging about the last four pages in my mini handmade journal. Having such fun with it, I don't mind how behind I am, and that everyone is on part two of the challenge already. LOL!

I have provided some in-process photos for some of these layouts. Here goes.

Day 13 Prompt: PATTERN

Before:

 I started with a gelliprinted background and covered most of it up with teal paint and purple and pink paint. I regret this, as I really loved the prints! 

I wanted to create a pattern with stenciled flowers, but it just wasn't doing it for me, so I covered the poor flowers up. I used the flower from the 9x12 stencil of the September 2016 club stencil from StencilGirl.

I hope to try this again with slightly different method and process. This is part of why I love doing challenges like this. I learn so much. Especially great working in an art journal instead of canvas. If you don't like the results, it's perfectly easy to just cover it up and start again. No pressure.

At this step, I was still trying to use the flower-look, adding smudges of blue paint.

Ended up with what I know well: handpainted roses.

Day 14/30 Prompt: DASHED

Before pic below:

I loved the print I had going before I even started on the prompt, so I left it mostly as is, except the few black dashes here and there. Loving the little page on the right.

I added a fun little Art Pops by Roben-Marie, which now makes the page tabbed. LOVING it. I downloaded them and printed them at a local print shop, but you can actually buy these cute artsy stickers. I am taking a class by RM, called Pop-Up Fringe Journal, and included in the class is the Urban Grunge collection as digital downloads.

Day 15/30 Prompt: LOOSE

For this prompt, I now had a little surface to work on, and framed in the back with the previous prompt finished on the left, and a blank page on the right.

I simply painted some loose flowers in white and added leaves and dots with brush, brayer and paint pens.

Day 16/30 Prompt: ASSORTED

Another little page, and loving it! :)

Before:

Painted the whole thing black. And this must be the middle of my book, as can you see my aubergine yarn, which binds my book? :)

Here I made little ogee patterns with a paintbrush, added little dots with paint pens and extra lines with pencil and a fine-tipped paint pen, ending it with some paint splatters. 

How I decided to do ogee patterns: I was oogling an ogee patterned LulaRoe Irma shirt on one of the Facebook groups I'm in. Ended up not buying it, as she doesn't sell to Canadians. :( Bummer. :(

And there are the last four pages I've done for this challenge. The rest will need to wait until I'm back from our Mexico vacation! Whoop!!! :)

Urban Fringe Pop-up Journal Class by Roben-Marie Smith

Hi peeps! 

I want to show you the book I made in a fun class by Roben-Marie Smith I just finished. It's called the Pop-up Fringe Journal. Loving the results! It will be so fun to work up artsy grunginess in this interactive journal!
